Afternoon Tea

So, cake. Following on from the 'we are old' theme, we decided a little while ago to have a girls only tea party. Elegance was needed in our lives and what better way to achieve this than by inviting our amazing girlfriends over for an afternoon of sweet treats and gossip? Pretty dresses were optional, but encouraged.

Invite only!

This was also seen as a chance to use the Woods Ware Beryl pieces and vintage glassware that we have been collecting over the years. And eat sweets. And cake. Have we mentioned cake?

Always exciting when the Beryl is busted out

Cocktail glasses (minus cocktails?!)

Now, we take this kind of gathering seriously. Preparations were made. We theme and colour co-ordinated the food. Gluten free cupcakes were baked well ahead of time and frozen. Recipe books were scoured for just the right sandwiches. Outfits were planned. Tea towels were ironed.

Then we went to Sainsburys and bought a ton of sweets. Oops. The theme quickly changed from elegance to nostalgia. Ok, there was no real theme, just booze and sweet things.

Mini lollies!

The morning of the Tea saw the Birds in a slightly frazzled state, cleaning the flat whilst putting curlers in and trying to make sure the ciabatta didn't burn (failed on that). The following conversation took place:

"DUDE!"
"Dude?"
"We are having a Tea Party. Do we have any tea?"
"We have Prosecco"
"Open it"

Party rings - classic

By the time our first guests arrived we were ready, complete with tomato paste splattered dresses and bear feet slippers. Ok, so shortly after our first guests arrived we were ready. Processco was popped and (pink) glasses filled as we arranged the cakes and treats that Laura magically produced. These included: a coconut and raspberry cake; Nutella cupcakes; macarons and jellies. Wonderful home baked gluten free goodies were also provided by Eleanor, cream filled meringues and rose ice cream by Jess and brownies by Estelle. Not to mention all the bubbly booze and bloody Mary sandwiches.

Jelly Jelly Jelly

Inevitably, we spent the afternoon, evening and night eating, drinking and gossiping. We couldn't have been happier.

Drool

Ok, maybe pink remained as a theme

The next day we were still on a sugar high. This may have had something to do with the leftover brownies we had for breakfast (and cake a la mode for dinner). But whatever it was, it worked, and we spent the day dancing around the flat to Huey Morgan. This felt like a suitable conclusion to the weekend.

Lessons we learned that afternoon were: no matter how prepared we think we are, we will never be ready on time; girls will ALWAYS find something to gossip about; shoes maketh an outfit; everyone likes cake and everyone LOVES pink frosting.

Ooo, look

Unfortunately it was all too much for some.

Lightweight

Much love,

Liz xXx and Laura X
